Lee at 200

Jan. 19, 2007, marked the 200th anniversary of Robert E. Lee’s birth. Born into an important Virginia family, he remains not only a signal figure of American history but also a far-sighted educator whose influence extends beyond Washington and Lee University.

Throughout 2007, W&L will commemorate his extraordinary life and times, with a special focus on his five transformative years as president of this institution.
